The Garden Reflected Helens Love for Nature

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a family in Cambridgeshire for funeral videography, specifically to capture a memorial service. Unlike traditional funeral services, this was not held in a church or funeral home; instead, the family had chosen their spacious garden as the venue. This was no random selection, as the setting reflected their loved one, Helen's love for nature and her vibrant spirit.

The garden was full of beautiful flowers and trees, with myriad shades of green, blooming flowers, and alive with so many butterflies. The family had arranged tables and chairs with lovely floral centrepieces, creating an environment that was more relaxed and informal than a conventional funeral. This approach allowed Helen's friends and relatives to reminisce, exchange stories, and say their goodbyes in a space that was uniquely hers.

Helen’s Favourite Music Filled the Garden

Throughout the afternoon Helen’s favourite music filled the garden, interspersed with videos and tributes that took everyone on a journey through Helen's life. Intimate moments of shared memories and anecdotes brought laughter, tears, and a heartening sense of a life well-lived which inspired all those gathered.

As a Cambridgeshire funeral videographer, when filming my main challenge is to always capture the whole scene as creatively as possibly. To tell a story, to show those moments of love and grace as everyone comes together. It always feels like a daunting task, but I also really love it. Every funeral, every Memorial Service I film is unique and filled with intricate details and moments that when edited together into a film and weaved together with music, become a powerful tribute of someones life.

We also Provided all the Visuals for Helen’s Memorial Service

A number of weeks before the memorial Service, the family also asked me to put together all the visuals and graphics for the occasion. They sent me lots of music, videos and Photos which were displayed on two large TVs and set up at the front of the garden, adding another layer of personal touch to the event.

There's an inimitable magic to filming memorial services in someones garden. They offer a chance to celebrate a life on familiar ground, where memories are already very real and in a way that truly reflects the individual and what they cherished most. In Helen's case, it was her love for nature and her love for music.
