I recently had the opportunity to document a funeral at the Church of St. Mary's in Whitby, North Yorkshire. Nestled adjacent to the iconic Whitby Abbey, St. Mary's is a Norman marvel constructed in 1110. Its interior is distinctively unique, with some of the loftiest pews I've ever encountered — even in my extensive experience spanning hundreds of church visits as both a Wedding and Funeral Videographer. Such architectural intricacies posed certain challenges in terms of visibility, especially with the pulpit towering so prominently. Nevertheless, arriving early allowed ample time for setup, ensuring I capitalized on the picturesque setting.

With the church providing a panoramic view of the River Esk meeting the ocean, the majestic Whitby Abbey in the background, and seagulls gracing the sunny yet breezy sky, the setting was nothing short of cinematic. As a Videographer, this environment required careful consideration and creativity to authentically capture the essence of the funeral.
